why did Rajitha meet deans of 8 Medical faculties?

Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne had requested the deans of eight medical faculties to hand over report, with their proposals on enhancing the standards of the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM).
Minister Senaratne had made the......request when he met the deans last afternoon.
The Minister had pledged to look into the issues regarding the standards of the Medical Faculty at SAITM.
Recently, the Court of Appeal issued a verdict stating that the SAITM has the legal authority to award a Medical Degree and ordered the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) to take steps to duly register students who obtain the Medical Degree from this institution, as qualified medical practitioners.
The Appeals Court issued this order in response to a Writ Petition filed by two students of SAITM, namely Malshani Suraweeraarachchi and Dilum Sooriyarachchi accusing the Sri Lanka Medical Council of rejecting their applications for registration as medical practitioners, who had obtained their medical degrees from SAITM.
In the aftermath of the order certain parties raised concerns about SAITM and in response the President too decided to intervene in the matter.
