Western Province Graduate Collective protest causes traffic congestion

The Ceylon Teachers Services Union and the Western Province Graduate Collective joint organized a walk today. They were demanding the immediate recruitment graduates in the Western Province to fill the teacher vacancies.

The group approached the Finance Ministry after staging a protest opposite the Colombo Fort Railway Station. They were demanding the immediate approval of the Ministry for the recruitment of the graduates in the Western Province to the teacher service. The Ceylon Teachers Services Union and the Western Province Graduate Collective handed over a petition to the Finance Ministry. It is reported that a Ministry official who accepted the petition said that action would be taken to grant them a discussion on the matter within a week.
Severe traffic congestion was reported as a result of this protest obstructing the movement of traffic.
